Board of Supervisors meetings occur the first Saturday of every month at 8:00 a.m. at the Township office.

Planning Commission meetings occur on the third Monday of every month at 5:00 p.m. at the Township office.

The population of the township was 5,429 at the 2010 census, up from 4,504 at the 2000 census. However, these numbers do not include many SU students who live in the township two-thirds of the year or more but do not register Shippensburg as their home address.

Shippensburg University's enrollment totaled 5997 students in the spring of 2018, with 5065 undergraduates and 932 seeking graduate degrees.

The first mile and a half of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail crosses the northern portion of the township from east to west, connecting the Borough of Shippensburg to Shippensburg Township Park and points beyond.

Burd Run

At the turn of the century, a project was undertaken to restore the stream channel, riparian corridor, and floodplain wetlands on a 21-acre property along Burd Run. The stream channely had been artificially straightened in the past to accommodate farming adjacent land. Today it is a natural habitat for numerous species and home to the Burd Run Nature trail.

Shippensburg Township is unusual in that it is non-contiguous, being divided by the Borough of Shippensburg into four separate parts. In addition to the Borough, the township adjoins Hopewell and Southampton townships in Cumberland County, and Southampton Township in Franklin County to the west.
